The other day I was checking my emails when I saw a very interesting and inspiring email from a lovely lady named Heather.

To begin, let me tell you a little about her.. Heather is a survivor of Mesothelioma (a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure) When she was diagnosed, she had just given birth to her little girl and was told she only had 15 months to live.

Heather decided to undergo a risky surgery that involved the removal of her left lung.. Heather beat the odds and on February 2nd this year, she celebrated the 8 year anniversary of her surgery and her being cancer free!

In this email, Heather told me about a day she created called ‘Lung Leaving Day’. Lung Leaving Day is about overcoming your fears. Every year on this day Heather and her family gather at her house, they write their fears on plates and smash them into a bonfire. I think that this day is a great idea, this day grows bigger each year and it is now used as a fundraiser for Mesothelioma awareness. Last year, more than 75 people attended and together they raised $4,500 (which is around £2742).
I know that this day has past and I missed the day but, as Heather put it..

‘’Facing fears isn’t something that should be restricted to one day’’

I couldn’t physically face all my fears in one day, the amount that I have, aha!
